I don't know how to document this. I close the lid. Normally the system should go to sleep, but I can see from the LEDs that it is still working. I open the lid and it actually works. I close the lid again and the system goes to sleep. There have never been any problems with the hardware, whether in Windows or other distributions. Tell me where to look for the logs and I'll post them. This doesn't always happen.
