    I downloaded Tor from the app store.
    the browser is in chinese...
    Is there a way I  get the app from the store in english?

    sudo apt-get install tor-browser

    You should search tor browser in international region.
    The app in Chinese region is another package.

    It was indeed the international region which had to be selected.
    I just didn't realize the option even existed...
