Good question this as been mentioned before in forum. Some users right click the Dock and chose Efficient mode and if they need even more room chose the Classic mode

I would like to have a scalable Smart Dock)

Good idea my dock often overflows not by the items I added to the dock but by the large number of applications running at the same time.

In this and in the other case it will be interesting
