Maybe its been addressed (sorry I don't read Chinese) and the forum will not allow a search for "qq" but how does one log on to the QQ messenger network? I checked the Deepin Software center, but nothing in there seams to support QQ.
There is the official beta but is there any particular official way to go about installing a QQ messenger (even a plugin for Pidgin) for Deepin?

QQ is a proprietry software owned by Tecent. To use QQ you have to sign up here. Two ways are offered to sign up, the first is using a nickname and then you will be assigned a number to log on; another way is using your email to sign up and you'll be able to use your email address to log on in this case.

Thanks. I have installed from ISO latest source and when searching "QQ" in software center, it does not show up like yours. I only get result for empathy (but this does not support QQ either).

I already have a functioning account on QQ and have been using the Windows client, I would like to use it on Deepin.

Maybe your version of the Software Center is obsolete, at least the database is.
Try this in your command line to search a suitable wined version.
  1. $ sudo aptitude update
Copy the Code
  1. $ apt-cache search qq
Copy the Code
If your can see the item for deepinwine-qq2012, just install it.

That did it. Thanks lihongwu.
(Maybe should report this as bug? Latest ISO source should come with latest aptitude version)

What release are you using? 12.06 or the development release for 12.12?

12.06
I regret to tell you but 12.06 is largely unsupported because we've put all our focus on the 12.12 development.
I know it is possibly not proper to drop old release for lack of human resource, but I must be honest. Sorry for that.

On your website download page you only feature the 12.06 release. Should we be using something else? If so, where do we get it?

I am evaluating Deepin as a possible solution for our admin personel in China and having the strong CN langauge support is very appealing (admins like myself can easily switch to EN to do any updates or tinkering and then switch back to CN for the user).

Oh, sorry for the inconvenience. Because we haven't yet released an ISO whose locale is set to English (because there is some localization work need to be done for the English language), we haven't updated the information on the webpage of the English language. You can click on the Chinese characters -"中文" - on the top-right of the webpage to switch to the Chinese language. Then you'll find the download information for the new development release of 12.12 (which is beta at the moment) and two ISO images which has the Chinese locale are available for the x86 and x86_64 architectures.

The download link is listed below for your convenience.
ISO image for x86 architecture: download
ISO image for x86_64 architecture: download

The developers are now busy at the new desktop environment and newer versions of our featured applications so there are times we might not seem so thoughful. But believe me they really are doing their best to provide a distro that matters.

You are very welcome to evaluate our new release and feel free to ask for support if you need our help.

Thanks for the preview. Ill have a look at it soon. If 12.12 is an upgrade of 12.06, I think we have a winner. Solid CN support in Linux (esp in GUI and presentation) is hard to come by. Have you set a timeframe for first stable release?

Do you have a commercial offering as well?

Hi effld, I am the BD of Linux Deepin

Comparing with 12.06, the new version 12.12 means more to us:
1. new desktop environment, deepin-desktop-environment, is more beautiful than gnome shell
2. new software center, deepin-software-center, is much easier to install & update software such as QQ, Skype, etc.
3. new music player, deepin-music-player, is an awesome music player with brilliant and tweakful UI
