You can switch between them just pressing [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Left]/[Right] keys. You can also go to a specific workspace, e.g: [Ctrl] + [2] for going to the second workspace.
About the icon, it's the notification area, like in Windows:

Limited software availability on the Deepin repositories? 
Eu tenho nunca consegui, existe a opção de mais de uma área de trabalho, como no Ubuntu?
e para que serve esse aplicativo aqui?
