Hello, I'm an Italian developer and systems administrator.
I've always had a passion for operating systems, and for years I've been replacing Windows/Mac with Linux. I currently have a small fleet of machines on which I've installed (after trying various distros) Linux Mint/Zorin. I must say that these latest versions have made great strides in making Linux accessible to the market, or so I thought, until recently, out of curiosity, I tried Deepin, also driven by the switch to Debian. I was struck by the system's beauty, cleanliness, and speed. So much so that, despite my lack of knowledge, I replaced Mint and Zorin on about ten PCs (we're talking about PCs used for work) with Deepin, and it was even better than I initially thought. My experience, despite a few small flaws, can be summarized as follows:
1) Some apps that can be installed as deb packages are not translated from Chinese. For example, Thunderbird and the Phone app. Replaced with Flatpak.
2) Poor flatpak integration, requiring a reboot and/or log out each time to access apps in the menu. The flatpak system isn't integrated with the app store.
3) Some issues with the keyboard, which in some programs like Gambas3 requires double-tapping to enter special characters. And to be honest, the key combination used to invoke the search is a bit invasive. Ctrl+Space should be changed to the default. And sometimes there's even a slight lag when composing text.
4) There's also some uncertainty in integrating apps from the Debian repos due to the lack of Deepin in the repos.
After a few weeks of intense work use, these are the only flaws I've noticed. Otherwise, my opinion is:
No Windows, No OSX, No other Linuxes... only Deepin.
Well done, you've done an incredible job. When I show the graphical result on a 2019 MacBook Pro, people are amazed and ask if I can install it on their PCs too.
Thank you so much for the incredible work you've done. It's just a shame that Deepin is really little known here. If I could give you a little advice, I'd invest in some marketing and suggest a YouTube channel that might be suitable. Being a music channel, I'd say it has no drawbacks and has a good audience, at least in Italy.
