Issue with GRUB after upgrading from Deepin 25 Alpha to 25 Beta — No kernel versions detected (Solved with factory reset)
Description:
After upgrading from Deepin 25 Alpha to Deepin 25 Beta, I noticed some issues related to the bootloader configuration:
GRUB was not able to generate boot entries, showing the message: No kernel versions found in /boot
During the upgrade process, some package management tasks were not completed successfully, including with grub-pc.
The system was unable to start correctly after the update because the kernel was not present in /boot.
Solution:
I resolved the situation by using the system’s factory reset feature. After applying it, the system is now functioning properly, including the bootloader and kernel.
Purpose of this report:
This feedback is intended to inform the development team about this situation to support future improvements in the upgrade process from Deepin 25 Alpha to Beta, especially for users who may perform direct upgrades without clean installations.
Steps followed:
Performed an upgrade from Deepin 25 Alpha to Deepin 25 Beta using: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
Observed that GRUB was unable to generate the correct entries, showing the message: No kernel versions found in /boot
The system did not start normally after rebooting.
Applied the factory reset, which restored the system to a fully operational state.
System Information:
Deepin version: 25 Beta
Architecture: amd64
Upgrade type: From Deepin 25 Alpha to 25 Beta (before using factory reset)
Boot mode:UEFI
Observed messages:
No kernel versions found in /boot
Package configuration tasks were not completed as expected.
Additional notes:
After the factory reset, the system is running without issues.
This report is intended to contribute to improvements in the upgrade process for future versions.
Thank you for your work and commitment to improving Deepin.
