Dear community,

I am using Linux Mint as my main driver.

Because deepin supports AI, i want to migrate. Before i do that i have some questions:

1- Am i correct that i can install debian packages on deepin?

2- Does deepin supports flatpak ( i got a lot of flatpak apps installed)?

3- How long is deepin supported in terms of years?

4- Deepin is not in Dutch available?

Thanks

Evert

  1. You can install Debian packages on V23, but there might be problems with dependencies. However, as V25 Preview is a immutable Linux distribution, you can only install Debian packages in a Debian-based container.
  2. Flatpak is supported on V23, but only apps from App Store is available currently on V25 Preview.
  3. Deepin is a rolling distribution. Initially deepin planned to release a main version every 3 years, but it changed. The maintenance of former versions is not guaranteed.
  4. Dutch is available but not fully translated.

Hi Evert! I'd be happy to help with your questions about Deepin:

Yes, you can install Debian packages on Deepin. Deepin comes with a package manager called Deepin Package Installer, which allows you to easily install .deb packages.

Yes, Deepin supports Flatpak. You can install Flatpak on Deepin by running sudo apt install flatpak in the terminal. After that, you can add the Flathub repository and start installing Flatpak apps.

Deepin releases new versions regularly, with each version typically supported for about 2-3 years. For example, Deepin 23 was released in 2024 and is expected to be supported until around 2026-20274.

Yes, Deepin supports Dutch. You can set the system language to Dutch during the installation process or change it later through the system settings.
