In October 2024, deepin 23 underwent 3 beta updates, added 5 new features, and fixed 37 bugs.

Deepin Home

In October 2024, DeepinHome received a total of 186 user bug and requirement feedback, including 123 bug feedback, 63 requirement feedback, 5 fixed, and 20 confirmed system bugs. The fixed bugs include user-reported problems such as the "obscured content due to transparent clipboard background," "incomplete display of the right-click shortcut menu for icons at the bottom of the launcher," and "unmet dependencies for installing node-gyp on LoongArch.

Participation of the deepin Ecuador community team in the Ibarra City Council Meeting

In October 2024, the deepin Ecuador community team, along with the Killa OS project, participated in the Ibarra City Council Meeting in Ecuador. They showcased the latest deepin operating system and the deepin community to the mayor and the head of SENESCYT. During the exchange, the mayor of Ibarra showed great interest in the deepin community and the deepin Ecuador site, and an agreement was reached with the deepin Ecuador team for future support in terms of promotional resources, funding, logistics, and the development of educational materials and books. They aim to promote deepin through mobile classrooms across the city and the entire country. "During the meeting, we presented our vision of continuously creating a more inclusive community, where access to technology and education is no longer limited by language or geography. For us, deepin is not just an operating system; it is a tool that can change our lives," said Owensuwu, the head of deepin in Ecuador site. He further expressed plans to create an activity schedule and continue fostering cooperation with the local government.

New SIG added in October

Fedora SIG: Fedora SIG is committed to porting deepin desktop Environment (DDE), to the Fedora operating system, allowing more distribution users to experience DDE. It is also responsible for following up with upstream versions, providing patches and new features to upstream from time to time, participating in the joint construction of the deepin community and maintain version stability.

SIG News in October

1.deepin-ports SIG:

RISC-V additional repository begins to provide third-party software packages such as mobile cloud desktops;
Multiple versions of the electron software package will soon be available in the RISC-V additional repository;
The app store initially supports the RISC-V architecture and is expected to launch applications by the end of December.

2.deepin LoongArch SIG:

Fix the issue where some Loongson machines cannot be installed through USB drives properly;
Upgrade elfutils to 0.191 to fix the issue where the Loongarch architecture kernel cannot compile properly after enabling BTF.

3.deepin-sysdev-team:

Collaborate with various SIG to continuously maintain and update warehouse software packages.

4.DDE SIG:

Fix several defects in deepin 23 version;
Special rectification application manager (AM) to solve various problems of inaccurate grouping/icon of taskbar applications;
Design modifications for certain modules in the deepin 25 control center, as well as adjustments to requirements for the launcher and taskbar;
Migration of the launcher to a pure DDE Shell plugin (ongoing) to address the issue of incorrect launcher placement in multi screen situations and facilitate complete disassembly and replacement of launcher components when necessary.

Provide a DDE Qt 6.8 adaptation guide for porting across various distributions.

Start promoting RISC-V standard kernel support, with initial plans to support SOPHGO SG2042;
The kernel code baseline has been updated to 6.6.52;
Added support for n500 and n210 network cards in MICRO INNOVATION INTRGRATED CIRCUIT;

As of the end of October 2024, the app store has successfully launched over 2100 Linyaps apps. In terms of key application updates, "UOS AI" has undergone a major version update, bringing global search and AI networking search functions; Visual Studio Code, QQ, DingTalk, and others have undergone minor iterations to further enhance the user experience. deepin debuts at CLK 2024, exploring shared NUMA OSQ solutions.

On October 26th, the 19th China Linux Kernel Developer Conference (CLK 2024) was successfully held in Wuhan, attracting numerous kernel developers and technology enthusiasts to participate. In the scheduling and lock sub forum of this conference, Cheng Nie and Shengjin Yu, senior kernel development engineers at deepin Community, shared their technical insights on "Performance Optimization of OSQ Locks in NUMA Scenarios".

deepin Community makes stunning debut at the 2024 OSCAR Open Source Industry Conference

On October 16th, the "2024 OSCAR Open Source Industry Conference" hosted by the China Communications Standards Association and organized by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology was grandly opened in Beijing. At this conference, Yaohua Wang, Vice Chairman of deepin Community, was awarded the title of "OSCAR Peak Open Source Figure" by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. The deepin Campus Alliance is an open-source learning organization initiated by the deepin community, led by students and supported by the deepin community. Aiming to encourage more Chinese university students to enter open source, promote open source innovation and collaboration models, and cultivate industry talents to jointly build open source communities. As of the end of September 2024, 198 universities across the country have registered and organized 51 campus activities, with a total of 1800+students participating. In October, deepin Campus Alliance held 6 offline activities with participating universities: China Agricultural University, Capital Normal University, Guizhou University, Guizhou Business College, and Zaozhuang Vocational College.
