hi all,

i have recently tried deepin x64 2014.1 looks sweet!!! but alack no sound, this is something that has been happening with many other ubusntu based distros i have tried on this laptop, which is  a toshiba s50d-a x64, 8gig ram, amd. i have installed ubuntu 14.10, kubuntu 14.04 + 14.10 neither of which sound worked. then i tried linuxmint cinnamon, mate and kde of which none opened a desktop. i even  tried pclinuxos again no sound. oh, and also tried open suse kde, no luck. the only one that the sound worked with is kali linux, but i dont like it. i do like deepin, and would like to have this system on my laptop. what i am wondering is can anyone figure out why kali's sound driver works and not any of the others??? as i stated already i like the look of deepin and would really like to have this working. i hope i gave enough info.

thanks

No sound problem should be caused by driver, you can search the driver for your sound card model under Linux. Or you can go to Deepin Control Center - Advanced Setting to switch the sound output mode.

thank you for the reply,
but um, uh, i have tried all "obvious" things before i posted, of which one of those things was to see if i could manipulate the sound card's settings to no avail. as stated already for the number of linux i have tried and only 1 had the proper sound card driver! what's with that? i figure that if the sound doesn't work with livedvd than it probably won't work installed, and therefore am reluctant to want to waste the time if i can't find the correct driver. i always thought linux was par excellent at hardware ... i have never had so much aggravation with installing linux than with this particular toshiba laptop. so to reiterate i have tried 10 x64 uefi capable linux to dual boot with win 8.1 and only one, KaliLinux had the right driver, doesn't make sense. any other suggestion?

hi again,
this is what windows has installed for my sound card "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC"  i am hoping someone can help with this, as i would like to be enjoying linux. honestly i have tried upwards of ten different linusii, none out of the box worked, i used to tell people that linux could detect hardware better than windows, perhaps i lied!
thanks
