Windows has this feature where you can toggle virtual surround/bass boost in the speaker enhancements tab in Control Panel.

Install PulseAudio plus PulseEffects, and you can do so much more to manipulate audio than is possible on Windows.

But I assume that only works with audio when played with Pulse Audio?  Sound enhancements in Windows is not attached to any particular app...  It's a system-wide effect so good for watching movies, playing games, etc.

EDIT:  Nvm, it seems PulseAudio does the same thing as Windows sound enhancements, acting as the middle man between software/OS and actual physical speakers.
