    All of a sudden, for no reason at all, the icons on the desktop randomly disappears and am looking at a black background. Is this a bug? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    Seems that dde-desktop process crashed. 

    Try to run "dde-desktop" in terminal and see if there is any error and post it here, maybe someone can help you.

    Usually logout and then login again or  just reboot will solve this problem.
