Welcome to the Deepin Forum. Most applications do provide a icon in the Deepin Launcher. And does not matter if you install from terminal or from the Deepin Store. For special applications or those installed manually there is not a easy way to add a icon to the Deepin Launcher. If you installed LAMPP  using the terminal is should provide a icon called phpMyAdmin in your Development applications section of the Deepin Launcher.

Hi Guys, Deepin rocks, I have added a Android Studio manually from the canary build and I can't figure out where to put the icon so it can be used by the launcher, it has some sort of generic icon at the moment in the Launcher.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Launcher icons are located in /usr/share/applications. I have changed custom icons by right clicking them and changing it by properties (restart/log out needed). There's app called Menulibre too, but I haven't manage to get it work, at least it's not working Manjaro's Deepin.

So is there a "hard way"?  I have several java applets (such as DavMail http://davmail.sourceforge.net/) that are not in repo.  I'd like to add the icons and create launcher entries for them.  A few weeks ago I thought I saw a page in the wiki that described how to do this but I can't find it any more.

Hi, Welcome to the Deepin Forum. Yes there is a hard way though I don't have enough expertise to do it or let alone explain it. It involves putting files in the right spot and creating symbolic links.  I tried it once on Pale Moon browser. From what I have heard that Deepin possibly might consider a easier way when there own file manager is released. Currently its still under development. You also might want to see this link, I do not approve of the method but might help you figure out where things go.

Fair enough.. reading through the post, I don't particularly like the approach either.  I'm not a big gnome fan (or KDE any more) which is how I found my way to Deepin. I'd prefer not to pollute my system with gnome stuff.  I guess I'll continue to execute DavMail via bash script.  However, I see this a big weakness in the DDE.  I hope it's on the roadmap somewhere.

Yes I think the DDE is far better then the Plasma 5 or Gnome. Its very unique and different then the others but still young.
